In the spotlight: Sweet pointed pepper

With 53 affiliated pepper growers and 445 hectares under cultivation, Harvest House is the Netherlands’ largest sweet pepper supplier. As of 2014 our range was expanded to include sweet pointed peppers. A total of four of our growers specialise in growing sweet pointed peppers covering a combined area of 17 hectares. Sweet pointed peppers are cultivated in red, orange, and yellow varieties.

All Harvest House and Terra Natura International (TNI) growers are defined by innovation and consistently pre-empting market developments. Our sweet pointed pepper growers prove this, because cooperation is core to their efforts. They consistently team up to explore potential improvements and new developments within Harvest House such as attempting to grow sweet pointed peppers under artificial lighting. Year-round pepper cultivation is becoming an increasingly attainable target.

The sweet pointed peppers clearly belong to the pepper or capsicum family, yet are distinctive by their notably sweet flavour, crunchy bite, and thin skin. Whereas the sweetest of the ‘normal’ bell peppers has a Brix value of seven, the sweet pointed pepper’s Brix value falls between nine and ten. The crunchy bite and thin skin also contribute significantly to the flavour. These characteristics define the sweet pointed pepper as a versatile product, great for salads, stir-fry and grill recipes, and even as a snack.
