'Fairtrade' day-care centre for Desert Joy
The high-tech Desert Joy tomato-growing company in Tunisia sprawls across an impressive 25 hectares. The company has achieved this within just six years, labelling it a great success. The company employs 650 people, 80% of which are women.
This high percentage of female employees is the result of a stabilising economy in southern Tunisia in combination with a rising cost of living. Because Desert Joy believes in a fair and delicious world for everyone, which can only be achieved through support, giving, and sharing, the construction of a day-care centre will be started in the next month. This makes having a job as a woman and as a mother even more realistic and helps create more equality between men and women. The construction of the day-care centre is expected to take about eight months.
