Combined heat and power plants enable growers to use energy in very efficiently.The excess energy generated is returned to the national electricity grid, while the CO2 is absorbed by the plants in the greenhouse.In the so-called Closed Greenhouse, heat and cold are very efficiently utilized, which can result in energy savings of up to 50%.

Energy savings are achieved in various ways.For example, some growers make use of geothermal energy. Hot water is pumped up from deep below the earth’s surface and used to heat the greenhouses.The cooled water goes back into the earth to be reheated.
